Paulina began her writing career in 1991 as a Contributing Writer for the Inland Empire Hispanic News, an English-language newspaper with an educational and positive theme. She wrote special interest stories, profiles highlighting successful community leaders and research articles dealing with immigration. In 1996, she began writing for Latina Style magazine as a freelance writer. Her articles focused on current events, career and entertainment. Between 1996 and 2002 she contributed to eight Christian inspirational books published by Starburst Publishers (titles listed below).
Paulina has a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from California State University, San Bernardino. After graduation (1996), she began working with families and youth in various capacities including crisis intervention and maintenance. Her hands-on experience has given her valuable insight into the damaging effects of trauma resulting from loss and the importance of dealing with negative emotions in order to move forward.
After experiencing the loss of seven family members in her extended family during a 12-year period, Paulina began writing books on grief recovery. Her book set is titled, A Time to Heal: Grief Recovery Guide and Workbook (2009). She followed-up with a second book in 2010 titled, Life Interrupted: Grief Recovery Guide and Workbook. Paulina is currently conducting grief recovery workshops. Please visit the "Healing From Loss" page for additional information and/or to schedule a workshop. Her third and most recent book, The American Southwest: Pride~Prejudice~Perseverance, is a historical overview of the various cultures that have populated the Southwest from ancient time to the present. It contains maps, graphs, a glossary and a well-documented bibliography. The American Southwest appeals to educators, students and the general public. It has been endorsed by Dr. Tom Rivera, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies at California State University, San Bernardino and is in circulation at the university’s library also at the University of California, Riverside and the University of La Verne. Paulina is currently speaking at colleges and universities on "Immigration and Education". For more information visit theamericansouthwest.net.
